Every opportunity for children to share ideas, offer feedback and contribute to decisions helps strengthen their connection to the school community while developing confidence, responsibility and a sense of purpose.
Within the Our House Spirit Educational Approach, we describe this as Community Voice - creating opportunities for children to express ideas, listen to others, and know that shared ideas are considered and acted upon.
This is where voice becomes especially meaningful.
When children see their ideas helping to shape experiences within their school community, they begin to understand that their contribution matters and that they can positively influence the experiences of others.
From Student Voice to Action
Imagine a group of student leaders exploring ways to strengthen participation within their House Community.
Together, they gather Community Voice, discuss ideas and begin planning a House activity that reflects the interests and needs of their peers.
Students across the school participate.
Children discover new ways to connect.
House pride grows.
Relationships are strengthened.
The student leaders experience the satisfaction of seeing their ideas create positive opportunities for others.
This is where authentic leadership grows.
Leadership develops as children take responsibility for turning ideas into meaningful action and experience their ability to positively influence the experiences of others.

When children gather Community Voice, plan activities, solve problems, collaborate with others and create opportunities for participation, they develop the confidence, responsibility and Community Capability that leadership requires.
Each experience strengthens their understanding that leadership is the ability to positively influence the experiences of others.
Developing Community Capability
Community Voice creates meaningful opportunities for children to develop Community Capability.
Children learn to:

Together, these experiences strengthen individual student leaders while enriching the wider school community.
Creating Opportunities for Every Child
Community Voice becomes especially meaningful when children's ideas help shape experiences that reflect their interests, strengths and perspectives.
Whether student leaders are planning a House Spirit Day, leading a House activity or creating new opportunities for participation, every initiative helps strengthen belonging, participation and connection across the school community.
The shared purpose remains the same:
To create a school community where every child experiences belonging and has opportunities to participate, receive from others, contribute and positively influence others.
